The PE Themes website is the perfect example of why using lighter background colors is so pleasing to the eye.  The subtle color scheme and spacious layout make it easy for PE Themes to prominently display the products they are selling to visitors.

KoviDesign

The KoviDesign portfolio by Jan Kovacs makes excellent use of an interactive header.  The sliding header provides an elegant and dynamic way for visitors to quickly look through the different designs in the KoviDesign portfolio.  And while dark backgrounds normally aren’t a good choice for text heavy websites, because this websites primarily consists of images, the darker background gives it a strong identity.

Nature & Decouvertes

As soon as you load the Nature & Decouvertes website, your attention is immediately grabbed by the bright colors in the large header.  There are quite a few elements on the Nature & Decouvertes homepage, but thanks to a light background and ample spacing, it’s fairly easy to navigate through the website.

Paiva Gomes

While many real estate related websites are obnoxious and contain too many Flash elements, the Paiva Gomes is very well-designed.  It features a dynamic header, easy to navigate layout and a color scheme that is subtle and easy on the eyes.

DesignWise

Designers can push the envelope with their own portfolio more than they can with most of their client projects, and that’s exactly what DesignWise has done.  When you load their portfolio, you are met with large text and bright colors.  While it’s edgier than many designs, the layout and color contrast of the design allows DesignWise to effectively communicate their brand identity to people who visit their portfolio.

177DESIGNS

While many designers go overboard with their portfolios, Pawl Kadysz of 177DESIGNS has done an excellent job of displaying all of his work while still maintaining an uncluttered layout.  He prominently features his website design, icon design, WordPress themes and coding skills at the top of his website, and then goes on to use the body to display examples of his recent work.

Breezy Baby

While pink isn’t a color that can work with every website, when the website is selling accessories for baby girls, it’s an excellent choice.  The Breezy Baby website is fun and interactive, and is laid out in a manner that makes it simple for visitors to find the products that they are interested in purchasing.

Bloom Health

Although health care can be a scary or overwhelming topic for many people, the design of the Bloom Health website takes away this edge and creates an environment that is warm and inviting.  Additionally, the spacious layout of the website makes it very simple for any visitor to navigate.

Duchy Originals

Thanks to its vibrant vegetable garden header, as soon as you load the Duchy Originals website, you know that the company is focused on real, organic food.  The site is nicely laid out and easy to read thanks to its light background, and the wooden boards at the top of the page add a nice accent to the rest of the website.
